Studies on the submicroscopic organization of the thalamus. An electron microscope study of the ultrastructure of the nerve cells and of the extraccllular elements in the region of the medial thalamic nuclei of the mouse, * The results of the investigations presented in this survey report, and the techniques for the production of the diamond knife, are described in detail in a publication now being prepared. The essential technical collaboration of Mr. in the development and testing of the diamond knife is gratefully acknowledged.

Assessment of basic physical and dosimetric parameters of synthetic single-crystal diamond detector and its use in Leksell Gamma Knife and CyberKnife small radiosurgical fields

Background: To determine the basic physical and dosimetric properties of a new synthetic single-crystal diamond detector and its application for relative small field dosimetry. Materials and Methods: The pre-irradiation dose required to stabilize detector response, dose rate dependence, photon and electron energy dependence, temperature dependence and angular dependence of MicroDiamond detector...

Ultracryotomy of biological tissues to preserve membrane structure.

A vacuum transfer stage is described which permits visualization of ultracryotome sections without the considerable distortions found in sections which have either thawed or rehydrated after freeze drying. Membrane structure-nucleus, nucleolus, mitochondria with their cristae and plasma membrane-was observed only in cells at the surface of the tissue which had undergone the fastest freezing rat...

The methods of sever plastic’s deformation in order to fine-graining matter’s structure for improvement of mechanical properties in metals

Increasing material’s strength has been a significant matter since the beginning of engineering to up to now. It has always been paid attention by engineers. A variety of methods has been presented for increasing strength, stability, working range and material working life by development of engineering sciences and more identification on material properties and the material behavior, which are ...

Analysis of the theory of thermal damage in biological tissues caused by Laser beam

Introduction: In laser surgery, the laser beam can evaporate and cut the tissue like a small surgical knife when the tissue temperature is heated to 100 degrees Celsius. a complete understanding of the distribution of damage in both pathologic tissue and surrounding tissue is necessary. Although the test is the most realistic solution for treating medical problems, for this rea...

Diamond knife in cataract surgery.

SURGEONS have always searched for sharper cutting instruments whether it be needles, scissors, or knives. The stainless steel blade has until recently been the sharpest knifeedge, but diamond knives$ are much sharper. The diamonds are of gem quality and the blades were developed originally for sectioning biological materials especially for electron microscopy. This paper presents their use in m...
